Hi Susan,

Some great suggestions – here’s a few refinements I’d like to recommend.

When purchasing a used car – calculate maintenance into total cost of ownership. Believe it or not, I would have paid less to lease a brand new BMW with maintenance included than purchasing a used one that was off warranty. Now I drive a 2 year old Smart car that I paid cash for. Much fewer worries.

Before you raise your insurance deductibles, make sure you have enough emergency funds in case you need to use the policy. As an insurance agent I’ve seen what happens when clients raise deductibles beyond their means.

And – when closet cleaning – donate and keep the receipts for tax deductions. The ultimate recycling.

Thanks for the great info!
