6 Smart Stress Solutions to Mellow Out Fast!

We all know what stress feels like. Those adrenalin rushing, nervous energy type of feelings that result in overall body tension and migraine headaches. Feels akin to being connected to a non-stop caffeine drip minus the energy boost.
Today’s economy gives everyone good reason to feel this constant “fight or flight” anxiety. If you are feeling this way you surely don’t need to hear me tell you that this isn’t good for you. So, let’s get to it straight away…
Below are 6 quick tips to mellow yourself out and get back in touch with that powerful woman within you:
1.) Talk your Walk: Any kind of movement will help during stressful times. The easiest form of exercise to engage in, anytime, anywhere is to simply take a walk. Uplevel this de-stress strategy by saying a positive Truth Affirmation™ with each stride. Say things to yourself like, “I’m doing a good job”, “I am blessed”, “Everything always comes together”…
2.) Hug Somebody: Physical contact with another human being (or your animal even) shoots happiness hormones throughout your entire body. For an instant feel good, give someone you love a big hug and stay in the embrace long enough to share a soothing breath together. And, if you don’t have anyone near by give yourself a hug instead.
3.) Simplify: A cluttered mind, ToDo list and environment is the surefire road to stressville. Get yourself back on track by slowing things down, putting things away and finishing what you start. Begin by focusing on one thing at a time. Eventually you will make big strides toward getting things in order.
4.) Sleep on it: Rome was not built in a day, and neither are your life goals achieved. Giving your body the rest it needs is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself. Activate your de-stress defenses by getting to bed at a decent hour each night. And, when possible, allow yourself a quick cat nap when you need it.
5.) When in Doubt, Leave it Out: When we are super stressed we tend to ruminate on decisions, get overwhelmed with choices and do what one of my clients calls, “the sit and spin.” When you find yourself obsessing about what is the “right thing to do” allow yourself to let it be for a while. Revisiting it later will likely bring more clarity allowing you to make a better choice, with ease.
6.) The Super Scenario: Instead of focusing on the worst case scenario, see if you can focus on the best that can happen. Take three minutes right now to consider the best case scenario for what is currently stressing you out. Then, move in THAT direction.
One final thought to remember. There is much for us to learn during these stressful times. Historically, much ingenuity, invention and wealth have been created during hard economic times. Enormous opportunities exist for you. When you arrive at a point where you are thinking more clearly and breathing more slowly, see how you can find them.

What are your smart de-stress solutions?

I may be a bit biased about this de-stressing technique,
so bear with me!
I am a self-care coach and massage therapist in practice for over a decade. One of my core missions is to get folks to stop seeing massage as a frivolous luxury and start treating it like an integral part of their long-term, proactive health maintenance-whew! That was a mouthful…On a simpler note, massage over time helps rewire your nervous system so that you consistently maintain a healthy level of stress (instead of riding the roller coaster!). Plus, it Just Feels Good! So please support your health with monthly massage, the benefits range from better sleep to better skin and so much more in between… Don’t know of a quality massage therapist in your area? Ask at least 10 people you trust-you will likely get at least 2 excellent referrals.

Oh my!
Yes!
Regular massage is such a gift to our body!
Even if just getting one once a month would be so good for you!
And, if you can not afford going to a spa, check around and see if you have a massage therapist school near by.
Massage Therapy schools typically offer zero to low fee massages so their students can get practiced!
Thank you for your comment Anya… I believe we’re close to one another… yes?
