A lot of women tell me that they don’t know themselves. They don’t know how they feel, why they make the choices they make or what they want in life. Not knowing ourselves leads to annoying habits of second guessing ourselves, procrastinating and people pleasing. I totally get it. For much of my life I didn’t know myself either.
If you would answer “I don’t know” to the question “Who are you?” then read on for a coaching exercise to get acquainted with YOU!
To get started figuring out who you are…
- Begin asking yourself What and Why throughout your day… ask yourself, “What am I doing and why am I doing it?”, “What am I feeling and why am i feeling it?”, “What am I thinking and why am I thinking it?”
- When you’re used to asking yourself these questions (which means you’ve developed a skill of mindfulness to remember to ask) then begin ANSWERING the questions. It’s best to write them down in a log of some sort.
- After a few days review your logs. You’ll have gathered a lot of information of yourself… what you think, feel and choose. And, you may expose some patterns that you want to take a closer look at. All of this will provide a starting point for further investigation of yourself. Perhaps you’ll ask yourself new empowering questions, or engage in an activity that will solicit more self knowledge.

What do you know about YOUrself?

Great questions. Being a woman most of the time when asking ourselves what am I doing is usually doing something for someone else. That is a big one for me, because I forget about myself if I’m not careful. and then wonder why I am feeling like I am. You really nails some good questions, Susan to ask ourselves. Thanks.
