SURVEY RESULTS: What are Your Biggest Body Image Challenges?

by Susan Liddy

Here are YOUR responses to the question, “What are your biggest Body Image challenges?”

  • “Accepting that my body isn’t going to be the same as it was when i was in my 20′s!!!!”
  • “The dumb things my mother says like, “you need a boob job 2 get a boyfriend.”
  • “My neck, and double chin :(
  • “I love to eat, & don’t feel the same for working out, so shopping for clothes, thighs, stomach; overall not being skinny & being single.”
  • “My not flat belly!”
  • “Sadly, I’ve reached a place where I don’t like a single part of my body. Can’t think of one.”
  • “I wish I was taller than what I am”
  • “I really like Meghan McCain’s view on her weight on The View: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://www.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dxm002GGqp74″
  • “I’m short and have a big chest”
  • “I love to eat, & don’t feel the same for working out, so shopping for clothes, thighs, stomach; overall not being skinny & being single.”
  • “Just what I see in the mirror!”
  • “I can’t complain..for my age I still can go into the Limited and buy size 6 pants and walk out the door…”
  • “Not so much my own body image challenge (though I’m striving to be healthier) but society’s perception of what women should look like. This altered perception defines what sizes (especially cuts) are sold in stores. If you’re “plus sized” good luck finding slinky dresses that fit bigger breasts. If they fit the breast size, then the waist is too big! If you’re tiny, then the clothes aren’t that flattering either…in fact, they accentuate all the wrong parts (I wonder why). We are all “real women” regardless of size, larger like me or smaller like Jennifer…they ought to make pretty clothes for everyone!!!”
  • “I am happy with my body, just my stomache I hate as it does look as tho I am 6 months pregnat!!!!”
  • “that even though i am small and not anorexic people always tell me i must be anorexic to be as thin as i am”
  • “Body Image, Im working on going to the gym now eating right.. its just getting over looking in the mirror 45 lbs lighter and still seeing what I use to see.”
  • “Cassie, have you tried Zoom? I work in a dental office. If you truly want to invest on your teeth….veneers are your best option. Four or six veneers on your upper front teeth would make a big difference. But then again…try Zoom first.”
  • “my belly I hate it”
  • “my thighs, they have always been on the bigger side, ever since I started riding when I was 9, and they just get bigger if I do weight lifting = (“
  • “Too much excess baggage.”
  • “Let’s see…my stomach, hips, thighs, behind…”
  • “20′s? how about 30′s and 40′s? yikes….it happens ever so slowly…”
  • “My breast they have fallen and they can’t get up.”
  • “Finding clothes and having guts to wear them in public. All parts are worrisome.”
  • “my teeth in all honesty. Because they have never really been white and no amount of bleaching gets them lighter.”
  • “How long a list would you like? :)
  • “I want to look better but most of all feel better and be able to live my life to the fullest. My biggest problem is that others think I am either stupid, or lazy and do not give me credit for the brains I actually have. You can see it on peoples faces the first time they meet you after talking on the phone or via email. You could have wowed them without them seeing you but there is a judgment call once they lay eyes on you.”
  • “My mid-section…. I still look pregnant (and my youngest will be 9 this year)”
  • “I don’t mind having curves but my body could certainly use some SERIOUS toning. Just for my satisfaction.”
  • “My thighs!!! Ugh! I’ve always hated ‘em. :-P
  • “My stomach. I’m very self-conscious of my body”
  • “I have said it for years I am in SHAPE… Round is a shape.”
  • “its not that I’m fat no that isn’t the problem for me… its that other people have issues with the fact that I’m fat.”

One has to look at there body and like it. It is you. I have a nose that isn’t the best, but hey I have other parts I can use to distract from that nose. My breast aren’t that large and I have taken some teasing about that in my younger years. Guess what now that I am older I don’t have the saging problem most women have a my age.
Never compare your self to others, you are special and there is know one else that looks or is built like you. That makes everyone special and you can put that in bank.

Right on, Debbie!
Woot!

OMG you guys!

Our body image perception effects EVERYTHING! This is one “life area” that has a huge ripple effect into your life…

Meaning, when you are not feeling good about your body, chances are you’re not feeling good about your career, or your relationships, or how you’re spending your money…

Debbie, thank you for encouraging all of us out here to feel good about how we look. This is so IMPORTANT.

:) Susan
